She just shrugged and took his arm. "I thought you said it was going to be cold."
"It will be. I can feel it in my bones. A change is coming and it's going to be a doozy. Snow maybe."
"Yeah, yeah. Thank you, Willard Scott."
"So what's on for tomorrow?"
"I've come to a decision," Kyna announced. "I'm supposed to meet Bryan tomorrow night to turn over the cash. The money from the last shipment, the one for Santa Fe, is supposed to be my payment. I'm going to give him money and flush the rest of the stones down the toilet. But after that I've got to disappear."
"No problem. We'll go on the lam together."
She squeezed his hand. "That's sweet, but I can't let you do that. You have a life."
He shook his head and kissed her hand. "The life I had before is gone. Can you see me hanging out at some bar asking some blond coed what her sign is?"
"But what would we do? Where would we go?"
"One thing at a time, remember? Let's settle up with your boss and then see what happens. I still have a little cash in the bank. We'll get by. But that's down the road. About tomorrow, if we have to go into hiding, fine. But let's make the best of the time we've got."
Kyna walked along staring at her feet for a moment or two, then looked up. "Okay. You know how much I like Indian stuff?"
He chuckled. "I've heard rumors to that effect."
"Well, there's a place near here that has some really neat petroglyphs and a bunch of Anasazi burial mounds. There are a lot of good hiking trails and in the summer they have a store that sells Indian jewelry, though I guess it's closed now. It's one of my favorite places in the whole world."
"Is it far?"
"Oh, ten miles or so."
"Maybe we should stick close to town."
"Why?" Kyna asked. "Bryan won't be in till tomorrow
